Sunday in the Park in Aix

Sunday, August 28, 2011
Aix en Provence, France

Interested in a Music and Markets Tour? We'd love to hear from you! Next on the itinerary: Art Cities of Northern Italy

Just a couple more days in Aix for us this trip... and, as always, they're filled with delights! After church on Sunday morning, we stroll the Cours Mirabeau, lined today with artists and craftspeople.... oh there are so many things we'd like to fit in our suitcases!

While we were away, the renovation of the courtyard, which will last about two months, began. Outside our living room windows, the space is filled with 4 storey high scaffolding lined with scrim to keep the dust at bay. We're already eager to see the finished product!
This evening's concerts are an outstanding young pianist in the courtyard where we enjoyed several performances yesterday, and a jolly brass quintet who plays in the next-door Place de L'Archeveché. Our neighbor , Mme. Tomme, went with us to the first concert, then watched the quintet from her vine-draped window, above (in the video) . The little lane to the left of her house is our street, rue Adanson.

Another fun summer event in Aix is outdoor movies in the parks, and tonight is the last one of the summer, a 60's classic on a vintage reel-t0-reel projector in our favorite Aixoise park, Pavillon Vendome.

We pack a picnic in the market basket, get our beach chairs out of storage, and join the party on the grass. The movie's ok, but the night sky filled with stars is the star attraction!
