Across the Cafe Table - My Favorite MuseumI join fellow Travel Belles in remembering a favorite museum today and the first one that comes to mind is a long-time treasure, the Musée Jacquemart André in Paris.
Set back majestically from bustling Boulevard Haussman, this sumptuously appointed mansion surprises with its world-class art collection- works by Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Boticelli, Fragonard. Even ceiling and wall frescoes from ancient Italian villas have been incorporated into this Belle Époque jewel of a home.
The excellent audio guide gives one, along with the interesting history of this home and family, a sense of participating in a gala evening, surrounded by turn of the century “crème de la crème” of society…the murmur of conversation accompanied by lilting tunes from the orchestra in the gallery above.
Linger in the art-filled rooms, then pause for lunch or tea in the gorgeous café to prolong the sense of visiting a friend in her haute home for the afternoon.
